| 'Mind of Mencia' comic coming to Valley in September | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| By Albert Ching, Get Out | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| May 9, 2008 | ||||||||||||||||||||||
Mencia made a name for himself as a comic in the early '90s, but his career really took off with "Mind of Mencia," a hybrid stand-up/sketch show in the vein of "Chappelle's Show," in 2005. The show, which enters into its fourth season later this month, has become one of the most popular shows on Comedy Central. This appearance, at the 18,000-seat Jobing.com Arena, is indicative of his popularity - the only other comedian to play the venue recently was Dane Cook. Despite this success, Mencia has faced a great deal of criticism from fellow comedians, most notably George Lopez and Joe Rogan, for being an alleged "joke thief" and perpetuating negative Latino stereotypes. Reserved, $49.95, seats to see Mencia go on sale 10 a.m. Friday, May 16 at all Ticketmaster outlets, the Jobing.com Arena box office or by calling (480) 784-4444.
