Began his career as an unsuccessful solo artist in the early ‘60s (he was once dropped by Columbia Records) before becoming a staff songwriter in the legendary Brill Building (along with Gerry Goffin, Carole King, Burt Bacharach and Hal David and Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller), scoring hits such as “I’m A Believer,” “A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You” and “Look Out (Here Comes Tomorrow)” for ‘60s singing television sensations The Monkees. Once Diamond kicked up his solo career again in the latter part of the ‘60s, he soared to success with hits such as “Solitary Man,” “Cherry Cherry” and “Sweet Caroline“ before becoming a superstar in the ‘70s with smash hits such as “I Am I Said,” “Song Sung Blue” and his No. 1 single with former high school classmate Barbra Streisand, “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers.” While his success on the singles chart may have cooled off since the early ‘80s, Diamond’s albums releases still go gold (more than 500,000 copies sold) and the singer/songwriter made a critically acclaimed album comeback with the Rick Rubin produced “12 Songs,” a moody, acoustic set released in 2005. Diamond’s second Rubin-produced album, titled “Home Before Dark,” will be released Tuesday, May 6, and Diamond will be guest vocal coach on “American Idol” on Tuesday, April 29 and Wednesday, April 30. Tickets for the Jobing.com Arena show, priced from $55-$120, go on sale 10 a.m. Monday, May 5, at the Jobing.com Arena box office, all Ticketmaster locations and online at ticketmaster.com and jobingarena.com.
