The Nuge to play Celebrity in June

Legendary rocker Ted Nugent — who parlayed his wild-man image into a reality TV show (VH1’s now-defunct “Surviving Ted Nugent”) and guest spots on talk shows where he espouses his right wing views on gun control — will perform a show at the Celebrity Theatre, 440 N. 32nd St., Phoenix, on Monday, June 9.

Nugent got his start as lead guitarist for Detroit rockers The Amboy Dukes (who scored a Top 20 hit with the acid rock-flavored “Journey to the Center of the Mind” in 1968) before launching his solo career, which produced such ‘70s rock hits as “Stranglehold” (1975), “Free-for-All” (1976) “ and Nugent’s signature tune, “Cat Scratch Fever,” in 1978.

After a series of solo albums in the ‘80s, Nugent teamed up with Styx’s Tommy Shaw and Night Ranger’s Jack Blades to form the supergroup Damn Yankees, which scored two platinum-selling albums before Nugent left to concentrate on his solo career.

Nugent’s latest disc is 2007’s “Love Grenade.”

Tickets for the Celebrity Theatre show, priced from $40-$60, go on sale 10 a.m. Monday, April 28, at the Celebrity Theatre box office and online at sandersonmusic.com.
