Two singers with Valley ties — Mesa native Brooke White and Glendale’s David Hernandez, both 24 — were voted to the Top 24 following Wednesday’s “American Idol” results show.

They now go on to compete for the season seven title on the Fox singing competition.
Vakira Cramer of Gilbert, Ashley Robinette of Scottsdale and Perrie Cataldo of Phoenix also made it to the Hollywood auditions after passing their first auditions, but were then eliminated.

Brooke White


Age: 24

Song White sang at audition: Corinne Bailey Rae’s “Like a Star”

Song White sang in Hollywood, first round: Carole King’s “Beautiful”

What the judges have said: After White sang “Beautiful” and become the first “Idol” contestant to performs with her own musical accompaniment (piano), Simon Cowell said: “I really like you — I think you’ve got great, great potential,” and Paula Abdul said: “The risk (of playing piano) was worth it.”

Brooke White quote: Before singing “Beautiful,” White revealed that “If I’m being completely honest about my biggest obstacle, it’s probably confidence — that’s a hard one for me.”

David Hernandez


Age: 24

Current residence: Glendale

Song Hernandez sang at audition: The Temptations’ “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg”

Song White sang in Hollywood, first round: Stephen Stills’ “Love the One You’re With”

What the judges have said: After singing “Love the One You’re With,” Randy Jackson said: “It’s one of the first times today I’ve loved it from note one,” and Simon Cowell said: “I though it was great, David, I think one of the best we’ve heard today an what is interesting — very, very comfortable up there (on stage).”

David Hernandez quote: After singing in Hollywood, Hernandez said, “I got the respect of all three judges, which is what I was looking for, and I did my best — I’m excited.”
