Chandler’s Dos Gringos MexiGrill is one of the city’s hottest night spots. It features a colorful patio-bar ambiance, a mix of people in their 20s and 30s and, if you're game, a round of body shots.

The scene: There’s not a lot of options when it comes to Chandler nightlife, so it’s not a surprise that Dos Gringos and the neighboring — and very similar — Iguana Mack’s are going off. And why wouldn’t they? Both are fun bars.

People in their 20s and 30s (Click here for a slideshow) mingle on the large, decorative patio at Dos and stay warm under heat lamps.

A few people drink Coronas (the beer of choice) by the cozy fireplace, above which hangs a flat-screen TV that is showing the Suns game. There are lights everywhere, from the strands of colorful lights that hang in the trees to those around the bar. There are also a few patio sofas, a la Mickey’s Hangover, in back of the main bar.

Off to the side, there’s a small dance floor that advertises “Chandler’s smallest dance floor” and three hula hoops hanging on the wall. Sadly, no one is hula-hooping. Amusing signs with sentiments such as “Tequila loves me even if you don’t” and “Give us this day our daily brew” are hung up throughout the bar.

Too cold outside? There’s a large indoor area with colorful tables and chairs.

The menu: Options include flautas, tacos, quesadillas, burros and enchiladas. There aren’t a wide variety of cocktails. The majority of the people here are tossing back Coronas, Dos Equis or shots.

The music: U2, Nelly Furtado, Gwen Stefani and AC/DC are being pumped through stereo speakers.

Happy hour: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and a reverse happy hour 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, with $1 shot (bartender’s choice), $2 Dos Equis, $3 margaritas and $4 discounted food items.

The verdict: I’ve always been a Dos Gringos fan. I frequent the Scottsdale location a few times a month. If I lived in Chandler, I’d probably come there just as often. The bar offers a fun nightlife environment to Chandler residents who don’t have many options. Now, if only people would use those hula hoops ...

Hours: 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday through Saturday.
