The scene: Guinness is the brew of choice at Molly Brannigan’s, an Irish pub that sits in the upscale Dana Park shopping plaza in Mesa. People in their 20s to 40s kick back with the frothy, full-bodied brew while catching up with friends or significant others. The restaurant and bar is buzzing with loud chatter and bustling with servers. There are even a few families dining at the pub.

A friendly staff and warm wooden walls give Molly’s a relaxed feel — reminiscent of fellow East Valley Irish pubs Rula Bula, Fibber Magees and Skeptical Chymist — and wooden tables and chairs are spread among the restaurant. Although it’s chilly outside, a few people linger on the patio to smoke.

The menu: There’s an abundance of Irish fare such as shepherd’s pie, Guinness beef stew, corned beef and cabbage, and boxty. Not feeling the Irish eats? There’s also seafood, steaks and salads. And as for the brews, all of the usual suspects are here — Guinness, Harp, Smithwick’s, Blue Moon, Bass and Strongbow Cider. There’s also 20 different Irish whiskies.

The music: Satellite radio, mainly Top 40, is pumped through the whole restaurant. The bar plans to bring back live music every other Sunday after Super Bowl Sunday.

Happy hour: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday with $2 16-ounce Bud Light drafts, $3 well and $4 house wines and 20-ounce import and specialty brews and discounted appetizers. In addition to happy hour, Molly Brannigan’s features a half-price liquor menu from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the first Friday of every month and they host Practice Day on the 17th of each month with all-day discounts on Irish food and drinks.

The verdict: If we lived in Mesa, Molly’s would be our new Casey Moore’s. With its friendly vibe and relaxed feel, Molly Brannigan’s could be the Cheers of Dana Park.

Hours: 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday, 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday
